Saving a project as a template

Turn a project you will run again into a template, then start the next one from it on any date.

Saving one

Open Actions → Save as template (or the project's settings menu). Give it a name and, if you like, a description for its card. Owners and editors can save; viewers cannot.

A template keeps the lanes (colors, limits and the done setting), tasks and sub-tasks in order, labels, statuses, custom fields, dependencies, priorities, points and repeat settings. People, comments, time, files and custom field values stay behind.

  • Dates are kept as gaps from the project's first date, so the plan keeps its shape wherever it starts.
  • Notes covers task notes and the project's Docs page.
  • Finished tasks are kept and start open. Leave them out and their sub-tasks go with them.

Starting a project from it

Your templates appear first in the gallery (New project → From a template). Choose Use template, name the project and pick a start date; every task's dates move with it, and the window shows when the plan ends. Everything starts open: tasks that were in a done lane go to the first lane that is not done, and tasks with a done status take the default one.

Keeping it current

Saving the same project again offers to Update the template you saved from it, or to save a new one. A template card's menu renames it, opens the project it came from, or deletes it with Undo.

Your templates are private to you. Projects made from them are ordinary projects you can share as usual.
