Timeline Studio: presentation timelines from your plan

A new Create tool that turns milestones into a slide-ready timeline. Pick one of 22 templates, keep the rows, nudge anything, and export to PowerPoint as real shapes.

  • Rows come from a table you type or paste, or from the project itself: milestones, the critical path, a lane, a label or everything dated. Linked rows stay pinned to their tasks.
  • 22 templates in seven families (linear, process, serpentine, pins, vertical, curve, roadmap), six palettes, and brand kits with your colors, display face and logo.
  • Click to select, drag or arrow keys to nudge, double-click to rewrite, Delete to hide. Edits survive a template change.
  • Long timelines split into slides with a pager; every export makes one slide, page or file per slide.
  • Export PNG at 2× or 4×, SVG, PDF, and PowerPoint with native shapes and text boxes. Google Slides imports the same file.
  • Version history (named and automatic), comments pinned to elements with @mentions, presence while the team reviews, and public view-only links.
  • A timeline can sit on a whiteboard as a live node. Icons come from the Lucide library plus 40 Kyndium duotone glyphs.

Home: drag, stack and resize widgets

Every Home widget has a drag handle, a width and a height, and the arrangement saves to your account instead of the browser.

  • Drag a widget anywhere; the grid reflows as you move and saves on drop. Arrow keys on the handle move it too.
  • Widths from a quarter to the full row, heights from one to four rows, so short widgets stack beside a tall one.
  • Edit home sets size, removes and adds widgets; Reset layout has Undo.

Plan, Create and Actions menus on the project toolbar

The crowded More views menu became three: Plan (Plan and Track headings), Create (Canvas, Spreadsheet, Docs, then Reports and Flow Diagram under Analyze) and a labeled Actions menu.

  • Actions holds print, Automations, Save as template, import and export, so it no longer looks like the title's settings menu.
  • On phones, Table, Calendar and the Actions items fold into one menu and Plan and Create go icon-only.

New

Slack notifications per project

Connect a Slack channel to a project and choose what posts: finished tasks, assignments, comments, added tasks and a morning digest of what is due.

  • Posts come from the database itself, so every way of making a change is covered, including imports and automations.
  • Bulk adds fold into one line, posts are rate-limited and logged, and a failed post never blocks the change.
  • Project settings → Slack: connect with steps, per-event switches, pause, send a test, see the last post's status, disconnect with Undo.

Workload: who has what each week, against their capacity

People down the side, eight weeks across, counting open tasks or points from dates and assignees, with Overdue, Later and No date columns.

  • Each person sets a weekly capacity in tasks and points; cells turn amber near it and red past it.
  • A task with dates counts in every week it touches, with points spread across its weekdays. Co-assignees count too.
  • Open a cell to reassign a task or push it a week. This project or all projects, and a page of its own under Modules.

New

Import from Trello, Asana, Jira and spreadsheets

Drop a Trello JSON export or an Asana or Jira CSV and it comes over with lanes, sub-tasks, labels, dates, completion and dependencies. Any other spreadsheet maps its columns first.

  • Trello: lists become lanes, Done-named lists become done lanes, checklists become sub-tasks, comments and attachment links land in notes.
  • Asana: sections, parents, tags, Blocked By and custom fields. Jira: status categories, sub-tasks, epics as labels, sprints, points and Blocks links.
  • Assignees match by email to people on the project. Add to an existing project without duplicating lanes, or start a new one; a failed import undoes itself.
  • The import window was rebuilt: choose, match (only when needed), review, done. New project → "Bring it from another tool".

Project views update live and show who is here

A teammate's change to tasks, lanes, labels, dependencies or comments shows within seconds in every view and in an open task window, without reloading.

  • The refresh waits while you are dragging or typing, or have a menu open, so it never pulls the floor from under you.
  • Changed cards and rows glow once; faces beside Share show who has the project open and what they are looking at.
  • Task windows now take live changes too; before this they kept whatever was loaded when they opened.

Improved

Dragging, tapping and reading on phones

Touch drags start on a short hold so swipes scroll, on every board and list, and small controls get finger-sized hit areas.

  • Text fields no longer make iOS zoom in. The task window fills the screen. The Checklist scrolls with the page.
  • The Timeline gives the chart more room on narrow screens; help articles read in one column.
Pull request #58

New

Save a project as a template

Project ⋯ → Save as template keeps lanes, tasks and sub-tasks, labels, statuses, fields and dependencies, with dates relative to the first one. Start a new project from it on any date.

  • Choose whether to keep dates, notes and finished tasks. Save to a new template or over an earlier one from the same project.
  • The template gallery opens with Your templates and was rebuilt on the shared kit.
  • People, comments, time, files and field values are never copied into a template.

ImprovedFixed

Live organization chat

Organization chat updates for everyone as messages are sent, edited or deleted, shows who is here and who is typing, and marks other channels unread.

  • Rebuilt on the redesign with days, runs by author, edit and delete with Undo, and earlier messages on demand.
  • Fixed: the old chat saved the channel name as the message text and its loading query always failed, so it looked empty.

Keyboard shortcuts everywhere

Press ? for the list. / opens search, c adds a task where you are, and g followed by a letter jumps to Home, My Tasks or a project view.

  • Shortcuts stay out of the way while you type, hold a modifier, or have a menu or dialog open.
  • The Keyboard shortcuts help article now lists only shortcuts that exist.

New

A project Activity feed

Plan → Track → Activity shows what changed, by day: tasks added, moved, completed, reopened, trashed and restored, plus edits, files and comments, with who did it.

  • Runs of the same change by the same person fold into one line ("added 12 tasks").
  • Filter by person or kind of change; new activity appears live.
  • The database now logs creation, lane moves, completion and Trash on every path, so nothing is missed.

Canvas: resize snapping, snap to grid, group resizing

Resizing snaps the dragged edges to nearby edges and centers, or to the width or height of a nearby shape, with guides. A selected group gets corner handles that resize everything in it.

  • Dragging past the snap keeps your own size; Alt turns snapping off.
  • Align and space treat a group as one item. A Snap to grid toggle sits with the zoom controls.
  • Resizing from the left or top now saves the new position too.

Board: swimlane undo, repeating tasks in done lanes, loose tasks in swimlanes

Undo after a swimlane drag puts back the assignee, priority or labels the row changed. Repeating tasks now repeat from any path, and tasks not on the board yet show beside the swimlanes.

  • The next instance of a repeating task is made by the database whenever a task completes, so done lanes, the Checklist, Home and "Complete them" all repeat.
  • The repeat lands in the same lane, or the first lane that isn't done.

Canvas: templates, images in Storage, voting dots and a shared timer

Five whiteboard templates, images stored privately instead of inside the board data, voting rounds where everyone places dots, and a timer that counts down on every open board.

  • Templates: retrospective, brainstorm, user journey map, roadmap, flowchart. Start a canvas from one or add it to a board.
  • Votes stay hidden until the round ends so nobody follows the crowd; results rank with ties sharing a place.
  • Older images move to Storage when an editor opens the board; files go with their node or canvas.

Canvas: live collaboration and pinned comments

Others' saved changes, drags, pointers and selections show up live. Comments pin to a spot or a shape, with replies, resolve and a Comments panel.

  • Editors on a linked project can now change a canvas; viewers get a read-only board with Select, Hand and Comment.
  • Each browser skips its own echoes, and a live row never overwrites a shape you are dragging or typing in.
  • Linking a canvas to a project now needs edit access to both.

Live notifications and cell locks turned on

The notification bell and spreadsheet cell locks were subscribed to a publication with no tables in it, so they never heard anything. They do now.

  • Notifications can only go to yourself or someone on a shared project. Cell locks need edit access to the sheet.
Pull request #47Needs 20261011_realtime_notifications.sql

Canvas: frames, presenting, export, connectors, groups and guides

Frames carry what is inside them and present as slides. Connectors attach to shapes and take labels. Groups move together. Guides snap a dragged item to its neighbors.

  • A Frames panel lists them in reading order, presents them full screen and exports a frame or the board as PNG, or all frames as a PDF.
  • Connectors route as rounded elbow, elbow, straight or curve, and can be dropped anywhere on a shape.
  • ⌘G groups, ⌘⇧G ungroups; Shift-click adds to the selection.

Board: lane colors, done lanes, card limits, swimlanes, covers, quick edit and shared filters

The biggest Board release: lanes that complete cards, swimlanes by assignee, priority or label, card covers from attachments, a quick-edit menu, and a filter bar shared by Board, Checklist and Timeline with saved views.

  • Done lanes: moving a card in completes it; moving it out reopens it, on every path including ⌘Z.
  • Card limits per lane; the count and the lane edge turn amber past them.
  • Swimlanes: dropping a card in a row sets that field; Add in a cell starts the card with it.
  • Saved views (filters and grouping) are shared with everyone on the project.
  • Every piece of text moved to U.S. spelling.

Lucide icons and the shared header on every remaining page

New project, Admin, organizations, Help Center, Spreadsheet chrome, Share, Portfolio, invites and the rest lost their emoji and gained the shared page header.

  • Emoji people choose (project and team icons) stay as data; spreadsheet cell contents are untouched.
Pull request #43

Undo instead of "Are you sure?", and every view on the shared kit

Deletes act at once and offer Undo in a toast; the browser's confirm boxes are gone. Time, Reports, Automations, Risk, Flow, the frameworks, the hubs and the dashboard pages were rebuilt on the shared header, icons and empty states.

  • Tasks and projects go to Trash with Undo; things Trash doesn't hold hide at once and delete when the toast goes.
  • Board ⌘Z now undoes moves on the server, keeping edits and new cards made since.
  • Sprints and OKR rows light up when you change them; numbers pop. Reduced motion turns it off.
  • Menus shift to stay on screen; the project view menu used to open past the left edge on phones.
  • Fixed on the way: account-menu labels rendered as HTML, so an organization's name could inject markup.

A shared page kit: KPIs, Sprints, OKRs and Docs rebuilt

PageHeader, Panel, Stat, Field, EmptyState, Toolbar and Feedback (toasts, confirm) now exist as one kit, and four views were rebuilt on it.

  • Sprints: tasks open the real task sheet; completing a sprint carries unfinished tasks to the next or the backlog; charts use points when any task is sized.
  • OKRs: task-derived key results average their tasks; the form no longer saves a target of 0 as 100.
  • Docs: notes save a second after typing, on blur and on leaving, with a visible save state.

KPIs: lower can be better

A KPI can declare that lower is better (cost, defects, response time), and progress, sparkline color and the target prefix follow.

Search looks inside notes, labels and comments

Search matches project titles and descriptions, and task titles, label names, notes and comments, showing the matching snippet under each result.

  • Trash is left out; it used to show up. Each task appears once, under its best match.

Morning due-date emails, the 30-day Trash purge, and editors everywhere

A daily job emails each person what is overdue, due today and due tomorrow, following their timezone and preferences, and permanently deletes what has sat in Trash for 30 days. Editors can now work on tasks in every view, not just task detail.

  • The job has a dry-run mode that reports what it would do without doing it.
  • An editor's Undo after a delete works, because restoring accepts editors.

New

File attachments on tasks

Drop, paste or choose files on a task, up to 25 MB each, in a private bucket. Images preview; the first image becomes the card's cover.

  • Owners and editors add and remove; viewers see the list. Only images and PDFs open in a tab; everything else downloads.
  • Emptying Trash removes the files too.

Gradient themes retired; zero lint warnings

The ten gradient themes, the custom theme creator and per-project themes colored only the old glass views, which no longer exist. Color choices now live in Appearance.

  • SVG colors moved from attributes into style, so tokens resolve in every browser.
Pull request #32Needs 20261010_retire_custom_themes.sql

Plan limits enforced in the database

Projects, canvases, organizations, teams and team members are counted against the plan by the database itself, with a readable message when a limit is reached.

  • Per-person overrides and the admin Plan Limits matrix apply without a deploy. Usage shows on the billing page and the new-project notice.

Collaborators see OKRs, KPIs and sprints

Invited members saw empty OKR and KPI views because those tables were owner-only. They now follow project membership, and editors can change them.

  • Also fixed in the same pass: Risk register errors and several layout issues found in QA.

The rest of the app on the redesign tokens

The secondary views, module hubs, dashboard pages, settings, auth, the public share page and the overlays moved onto the Deep Sea tokens. The last unused legacy components were removed.

  • Light-mode users no longer see each page flash dark first.
  • Opening a task is one smooth transition instead of a glass flash.

NewDesign

Calendar rebuilt: week view, drag to reschedule, quick-add

Month and week views where dated tasks draw as bars that wrap across weeks, due dates are chips and milestones are diamonds. Drag or use arrow keys to move a task a day or a week.

  • An Unscheduled tray drops undated tasks onto a day. + on a day quick-adds. Subscribe copies the iCal feed.
  • Days are whole numbers, so moves never drift across daylight saving.

One project settings window, a redesigned Share window, a better Timeline task form

Five glass overlays became one settings window (Details, Statuses, Workflows, Fields, Webhooks). Share got invite, people and public links in one place. The Timeline task form puts scheduling first.

  • Statuses were unreachable before; nothing opened them.
  • Public links can be seen and revoked again; the window used to never receive them.
  • The Timeline form no longer resets repeat on every save, and new tasks keep lane, assignee, repeat and points.
Oct 8
Design

A landing page built around a live demo

One small project in Board, Checklist and Timeline over shared state. Move a card to Done and the other two views already know.

  • Drags work with mouse, pen and touch, and every drag has a keyboard equivalent.
Oct 7
DesignFixed

Task detail with progressive disclosure

Status, assignee, due and priority first; points, repeat, color, custom fields and co-assignees under More details; time under its own disclosure. Comments and Activity as tabs.

  • Comments, time logs, timers and assignments load again; an earlier change had emptied them.
Oct 6
Design

Board, Checklist and Timeline redesigned on the Deep Sea tokens

The three core views and the project frame moved to the new design system: one accent, solid surfaces, Lucide icons, a seven-step type scale.

  • Board: single click opens a card; ⌘-click selects; the drag overlay tilts with your hand; lanes part for a hovering card.
  • Checklist: three detail levels that switch without re-mounting; sub-task groups animate open.
  • Timeline: a Microsoft Project-style table with outline numbers, summary bars, weekend bands and a Critical path toggle.

The redesign foundation: tokens, primitives and the shell band

A token system generated in OKLCH from one hue, light and dark in one declaration, a set of UI primitives, a review page, and a new persistent top nav band.

  • The band is dark in both modes; switching to dark reads as the band spreading down the page.

Refocused on project management

Modules outside core project management (events, volunteers, small business, rentals, real estate, creative, jobs, personal finance, college, music, sports, collections, games, labs) were removed. Their code is preserved in an archive; a module registry now drives every menu.

  • Continuous integration runs the type check and lint on every pull request.

Cross-project hubs for Canvas, Spreadsheet, Time, OKRs, KPIs, Sprints and Docs.

  • Project tasks as a Table view with 13 column types; standalone spreadsheets under Create.

Canvas (mind maps and whiteboards), custom themes, dark, light and auto

The first Canvas: nine node shapes, four element types, resizable nodes, floating inspectors for nodes and edges, and canvases linked to many projects. A custom theme creator and an auto brightness mode.

  • The gradient themes and the creator were retired in October 2026 once the redesign replaced them.

New

Trash, archive, project lifecycle and invite emails

Deleted projects and tasks go to Trash and can be restored; projects archive; invites arrive by email; duplicates of tasks and sub-tasks.

  • The Checklist drag overhaul: whole-row drag, hover to nest, a promote zone; the Help Center grew to 21 articles.
